SERVICE, REPAIRS & MAINTENANCE OF YOUR VELORBIS
Your new Velorbis bicycle requires periodic servicing and maintenance. While Velorbis bikes are designed to minimise the need for service, regular check-ups and simple care are essential to keep your bike running smoothly. If you’re not experienced with bicycle maintenance, we recommend having your bike serviced by a professional bicycle repair shop.
If you use your bike daily as your primary means of transport, you should have it serviced at least twice a year. For occasional use, an annual service is typically sufficient.
ONGOING MAINTENANCE FOR E-BIKES
We strongly advise you to service your e-bike every six months as a minimum due to the following reasons:
Electrical Components: E-bikes include components like motors, batteries, and wiring, which experience more stress and wear than on standard bicycles. Batteries lose capacity over time, and motors are subject to constant use and strain.
Higher Load: E-bikes are built for faster speeds and easier riding, putting greater pressure on both electric and mechanical parts such as the chain, sprockets, and brakes.
Complex Systems: E-bikes consist of interconnected mechanical and electrical systems that must function in harmony. Regular adjustments help ensure optimal performance.
Weather Exposure: Outdoor use exposes your e-bike to rain, snow, and moisture, which can damage electrical parts. Regular maintenance helps safeguard these components.
Battery Maintenance: E-bike batteries require specific care to maintain capacity and performance. Incorrect storage can lead to reduced efficiency or even permanent damage.
In short, e-bikes demand more attention due to their integrated technology and the stress placed on their systems during use.
E-BIKE STORAGE RECOMMENDATIONS
To keep your e-bike in top condition, proper storage is key, especially when not in daily use. Here’s how to protect your bike and prolong its lifespan:
✅ Always Store Your E-Bike in a Dry Location
Indoor, dry storage protects your e-bike from harmful moisture that can impact both mechanical and electronic parts.
Ideal storage locations:
- A dry garage
- A basement or indoor storage space
- An indoor bicycle rack or storage facility
Benefits of dry storage:
- Prevents rust and corrosion on the frame and parts
- Extends battery and motor life
- Preserves the saddle and tyres
- Maintains overall performance
🔋 Battery Care
- Remove the battery if the bike is unused for more than 2 weeks
- Store the battery indoors at room temperature (10–20°C)
- Charge to 50–70% if stored long-term
- Avoid direct sunlight or heat sources
🚫 Avoid Humid or Wet Environments
Rain, snow or high humidity can lead to:
- Rust on frame, chain, and bolts
- Damage to the motor, display and battery
- Reduced product lifespan
- Increased maintenance needs
Outdoor storage tips:
- Use a waterproof, heavy-duty cover
- Keep the bike off the ground (use a stand or mat)
- Apply rust protection to exposed metal parts
- Check regularly for rust or water damage
🛠 Before Your Next Ride
If your e-bike has been stored in humid conditions:
- Check battery, display, and wiring for moisture
- Ensure brakes and gears function properly
- Wipe down the frame and lubricate the chain

PRE-RIDE CHECKLIST
- Check tyre pressure and condition (cracks, bulges, etc.)
- Test gear shifting and braking
- Make sure the handlebar and stem bolts are tight
- Confirm both wheels are securely fastened
Any issues discovered should be addressed immediately. Ignoring them may lead to further damage or risk of injury.
GENERAL LUBRICATION
- Most Velorbis Classic bicycles require minimal lubrication.
- If your bike has an exposed chain, use a spray lubricant regularly (especially after wet rides).
- Avoid oil, which attracts dirt.
- If gear or brake cables feel stiff, apply a light spray like WD-40.
- Front Hubs are sealed and do not require lubrication.
- Pedals, bottom bracket, and gear hubs (1-, 3- or 7-speed) should be oiled every year at a bike workshop as a minimum.
CLEANING
A clean bike looks good and runs better. Use car shampoo (never dish soap) and a soft brush or sponge. Keep leather saddles and grips dry. Don’t forget the wheels and tyres—glass or grit can damage them, and it’s easier to fix a flat on a clean wheel.
If you live near the sea or ride on salted roads, clean your bike frequently to prevent corrosion.
COMPONENT LIFESPAN
It’s difficult to predict the exact lifespan due to variable use. The best approach is regular maintenance and being attentive to unfamiliar noises—these are early signs of wear.
Frequent riders may wear out parts faster (chain, bearings, etc.), so proactive inspection and timely replacement are key.
WEAR & TEAR AWARENESS
Prompt attention prevents costly damage. A clicking spoke may lead to a collapsed wheel if ignored. A worn chain will prematurely wear out the cassette. Riding with low tyre pressure causes cracking. A loose crank can damage the crankset. Preventive care saves money and ensures safe riding.
Happy cycling – and thank you for choosing Velorbis.
